Art Therapy and EMDR Therapist Jobs in NYC
Most therapy jobs ask you to leave half your training at the door. We want all of it in the room: the art materials, the EMDR, and the values that brought you to this work.
Brooklyn North is a small, women-led group practice of licensed creative arts therapists. We are looking for art therapists and EMDR-trained therapists who want colleagues, not just a caseload.
Who We Are Looking For
Two kinds of clinician. Plenty of people are both, and that is welcome too.
Art Therapists
- Creative arts therapists who treat the image as clinical material, not decoration
- Comfortable holding verbal psychotherapy and art-making in the same hour
- Curious about trauma work, or already trained in it
EMDR Therapists
- Therapists trained in EMDR who work with trauma, PTSD, and complex PTSD
- You do not need to be an art therapist. You do need to be glad to work beside them
- Interested in how body-based and creative work can sit next to EMDR
How We Work
Our values are not a paragraph on the About page. They decide how we talk about clients, how we consult with each other, and who feels at home on this team.
- Trauma-InformedWe work with how trauma lives in the body and nervous system, not only in memory.
- Feminist and Anti-OppressiveWe name the systems that shape mental health instead of pathologizing the people inside them.
- Culturally AwareRace, gender, sexuality, and neurodivergence are part of the work, never a footnote to it.
- IntegrativeArt therapy alongside EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, and psychodynamic work, matched to the person in front of us.
- Weight-InclusiveA HAES-aligned practice, in eating disorder treatment and everywhere else.
The People You Would Work With
We see adults and young adults, in our Greenpoint room and online across New York State. Many are artists and creative professionals. Many are women, LGBTQIA+ folks, and people who have tried talk therapy and needed something more.
You would join four licensed creative arts therapists. Meet the team and read how each of us works.
What Brings Clients In
Tell Us About Your Work
No cover letter. A few honest lines about how you practice will tell us more than a polished one.
Adrienne Figueiredo, our founder, reads every note herself.
Questions About Working at Brooklyn North
Do I need to be an art therapist to apply?
No. We are a creative arts therapy practice, and we are also looking for therapists trained in EMDR who are not art therapists. What matters is that you respect the art as real clinical work.
Where does the work happen?
We see clients in person in Greenpoint, at 960 Manhattan Avenue, and online across New York State.
I am still working toward my LCAT or ATR hours. Is supervision available?
Adrienne supervises art therapists toward LCAT, ATR, and ATR-BC hours. Read how that works on our art therapy supervision page, and tell us where you are in the process when you write.
I am not sure I fit either description. Should I still write?
Yes. Tell us what you do and who you do it with. It costs you five minutes, and an honest note is easy for us to answer.
